Summer Skincare Routine

With summer quickly approaching, everyone needs a simple go-to summer skincare routine! With the scorching heat and intense humidity, it’s important to keep it light and simple during the summer months. While summer is a time to kick back and relax, you definitely shouldn’t relax your skincare routine. Now more than ever you need to make sure you have products and a routine that is beneficial to your skin. We need to think about how our extra time in the sun will affect our skin, and what we can do to help ourselves.  1. Cleanser In the summer months you should opt for a cleanser that is lightweight and hydrating so that the cleanser can replenish the moisture that is lost. It is beneficial to avoid exfoliators as they can strip your skin of essential oils needed in the summer. During these warmer months your skin produces extra oil and sweat so a good cleanser is important to cleanse the skin of these impurities.    2. Toner Toner is a must-have in your skincare routine during the summer. With the warm weather comes sweat, dirt and sunscreen that can all clog your pores. This  makes a toner essential to remove oil and debris from the pores, which could lead to pimples and blackheads. When shopping for the perfect toner for you, it's important to look for alcohol-free toners that are also hydrating. Looking out for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin are a great start!    3. Serum Serums are essential to a good skincare routine, but your choice of serums are based on what your particular skin needs. Throughout the summer months hydration is a top priority and need for your skin, thus a hydrating serum can go a long way. More specifically a hyaluronic acid serum can be very beneficial.    4. Moisturizer  Just because it’s warm outside and feels moist, doesn’t mean you can skip your moisturizer during the summer months! A good moisturizer is still a must-have in your skincare routine. With the warm weather comes an increase in oil secretion, so it is crucial to incorporate a lightweight moisturize that can help fight the oil your skin is producing. Emphasis on the lightweight as you do not want a thick and creamy moisturizer for the summer (unlike the winter when a thick moisturizer is encouraged).   5. SPF While you should be applying sunscreen all year round, SPF is an essential step to your summer skincare routine. No matter what skin type you have, SPF should be incorporated into your routine whether it be through a sunscreen or a moisturizer with SPF in it. You should be using an SPF of at least 15 and reapplying it every 2 hours or following swimming or any activity that causes you to sweat.  Xo Maskeraide Sources:
