How to Self Care While Working From Home

Now that school and work have transitioned to online, you’re probably finding yourself sitting and staring at your computer screen for what feels like 10+ hours a day. When your home has become your new office, it can be hard to differentiate between the two. During this time, it is important to take some time for yourself by creating a few self care regimens!   1. Take a walk Go ahead and get some fresh air! It’s easy to get caught up in your work, spending consecutive days inside and forgetting about the outside world. The sun is a natural healer and Vitamin D is proven to reduce anxiety and depression. Being outside in nature has a calming effect and is great for grounding yourself. It is important to take some time away from your computer to get out of the house and to switch up your surroundings. Don’t feel guilty about taking a much-deserved break!   2. Practice Yoga  Yoga is a great way to exercise, reduce anxiety, and take some time to practice mindfulness. There are plenty of free videos on Youtube and other platforms that are made for any level of expertise to help you get started. Even just taking 10 minutes out of your day to do some stretching and move around can help keep your stress levels at bay. Mindfulness is all about being in the moment and not getting caught up in your passing thoughts. Even practicing meditation and breathing exercises is a great way to take some time out of your day for your mental health.   3. Aromatherapy  Burning a candle, lighting some incense, or using an essential oil diffuser can really set the mood for your work environment. Some essential oils that are known for reducing stress levels are lavender, bergamot, lemongrass, frankincense, and jasmine. Creating a calming work environment can help keep you focused on all of your tasks and keep you motivated. Create a workplace that works for you!    4. Call a friend!  Isolation can get lonely, but having a study date or work session with one of your friends can make your day a little brighter. It may also gives you a little more motivation to get your work done when you know that someone else is doing it with you. Having a work buddy can really make the time fly by and improve your overall mood.    5. Take some time to relax  At the end of a long work day, your eyes may feel tired and your body may still feel stiff. Take some time to relax and destress. Run a hot bath or read a good book. Maybe watch some Netflix while using your favourite face mask. Whatever your relaxation methods are, it’s always important to take some time out of your day to do what makes you happy! Xo, MaskerAide
