Preventing Mascne

by Marketing MaskerAide |

Due to the global pandemic, it looks like face coverings and fabric masks  are here to stay for the foreseeable future, and with that comes the chance that you may experience mask acne, or “maskne”. Masks trap oil and bacteria against your skin, and combined with the humid environment, results in a perfect recipe for acne. In addition, the friction can also cause breakouts. Other than ensuring you’re using a clean mask every time, here are some tips for preventing maskne:

1. Use a moisturizer

Wearing face coverings and fabric masks on a regular basis has the potential to damage the skin's barrier, and we want to make sure that our skin is protected from harm at all times! An effective moisturizer repairs the skin to ensure it is strong enough to keep out bacteria and irritants.

2. Try skincare masks (our FAVORITE kind of masks)

A few times a week, give your skin some extra TLC. Our Matcha Detoxifying Clay Mask will help get rid of buildup and get your skin squeaky clean, and the Pore Cleansing Charcoal Mask pulls impurities from the skin and tightens pores. We recommend doing a face mask at least 2 to 3 times a week!

3. Avoid wearing makeup on your skin

Makeup + masks are a surefire way to clog your pores. Try to keep makeup light if you must wear it and do a double-cleanse routine afterwards to best clean the skin.

4. Cleanse before and after wearing

Keeping skin clean of oils is key to preventing acne. Make sure you use a gentle cleanser in the morning if you are going to be wearing a mask all day, or, use a micellar water before and after if using the mask briefly. If you’re wearing the mask during a strenuous activity like working out, cleanse after wearing.

5. Use a cotton or silk mask

Masks made from materials like rayon or polyester may irritate your skin. We highly suggest using a 100% cotton or silk mask to best protect your skin’s barrier! Even better - make it pink 😉
