Healthy Hair Tips For Summer

by Marketing MaskerAide |

Summer is a time to sit back and enjoy the warm weather, but you still have to remember to take care of yourself throughout the hot and humid months. The summer season is especially hard on your hair, which is why we are here to give you tips on how to keep your locks healthy and hydrated!

How to protect hair from chlorine

Chlorine can damage your hair by stripping it of natural oils and can even discolour dyed hair. The best way to protect your hair from chlorine is a swim cap, or refrain from dipping your hair in the water all together. If you do swim in chlorine a lot, there are special shampoos that you can find online specifically designed to help get rid of pool chemicals! Most importantly, after swimming in chlorine make sure to wash it out as soon as you can because the longer it sits in your hair, the worse the effects can be.

How to protect hair from direct sun

Direct sun can be very damaging to the hair, as it can naturally bleach and dry out your strands. Hydrating oil masks will be your best friend this summer and applying them to your hair once a week will leave your hair looking shiny and hydrated. Wearing hats or UV blocking serum in your hair can also protect you from sun damage.

Salt water

A little salt water isn't damaging to the hair, in fact a little bit of salt water can benefit your hair. But if you spend a lot of time in the ocean, it can be very damaging over time. Salt water in large doses can make hair hard, dry and can fade colour treatments. It can be very beneficial to use a serum that is specific for salt water protection. You can also use a pre-shampoo conditioner treatment and/or leave-in conditioner to soften the hair before and/or after going in the water.

Humidity

Humidity may not be damaging to the hair directly, but it can really bring out the frizz! Using a straightening serum before using a hot iron can save you from the frizz caused by the humidity. An alternate option is anti-frizz serum that keeps the hair tamed and smooth.
